BLUE HAMMER

TRAINING

The transition from arrest to incarceration can be one of the most volatile stages of the criminal justice process. Once an offender realizes they are truly “caught,” emotions can escalate quickly—leading to anger, violence, manipulation, or last-ditch efforts to change their circumstances. Corrections Law equips officers with the legal knowledge, investigative skills, and documentation practices necessary to navigate these challenging encounters and protect themselves both physically and professionally. The course challenges the long-standing belief that threats, assaults, harassment, and abuse from inmates are simply “part of the job,” emphasizing thorough investigations and airtight documentation that can help hold offenders accountable and provide correctional officers the justice they deserve. Participants will also learn to recognize signs of criminal activity occurring within their facilities and develop the investigative mindset necessary to see beyond the immediate incident to the bigger picture. Special attention is given to the Eighth Amendment and the constitutional responsibilities unique to the correctional environment. By strengthening an officer’s understanding of law, evidence, investigations, and constitutional responsibilities, this course provides another layer of armor for those who work behind the walls.
